US travel & tourism employs near 6 times more people than the automotive sector
Travel and Tour World
United States' Travel & Tourism sector directly generates nearly six times more jobs than automotive manufacturing, according to a new research report from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Launched at the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Annual Convention in Austin the Benchmarking Report 2015 compares Travel & Tourism to eight sectors in the United States, which are considered having similar breadth and presence.

International visitors spent over $18 billion in US in May

Recently, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced that international visitors spent more than $18 billion on travel to, and tourism-related activities within, the United States in May. International travelers have added $93 billion to the U.S. economy so far this year, and this increase in spending has supported more than 1 million jobs throughout the United States.

Study: Guest satisfaction at record high
Hotel guest satisfaction has risen to a record high, while the number of guests experiencing problems during their stay has dropped significantly, according to the J.D. Power 2015 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study. The study, now in its 19th year, measures overall guest satisfaction across eight hotel segments: Luxury; upper upscale; upscale; upper midscale; midscale; economy/budget; upper extended stay; and extended stay.

Travel group to GOP: Don't use TSA fees to pay for highway fix

The U.S. Travel Association is criticizing House Republicans for planning to use fees that are paid by airline passengers for the Transportation Security Administration to pay for an extension of federal highway spending that is set to expire at the end of the month. House Republicans unveiled an approximately $8 billion highway patch recently that includes about $3 billion in "savings" from redirecting the TSA fees to the nation's beleaguered Highway Trust Fund, which is currently set to dip below critical levels July 31.

Sixty percent of American travelers 18 to 34 years old say they put their faith in services such as Airbnb, Home Away, Uber and Lyft, compared with 37 percent of all other travelers. How much do travelers use shared economy services? Not so much.
