Travel employment up in August
Successful Meetings
After falling in July, travel employment rose again in August, according to the U.S. Travel Association, which last week released an analysis of the U.S. Department of Labor’s August jobs report. Overall, the Labor Department reported, unemployment in August held steady at 7.3 percent as the U.S. economy added 169,000 new jobs — 14,000 of which were in the travel industry, which currently boasts direct employment of 7.8 million.

Revenue figure up at Southwest Airlines

Passenger flew fewer miles on Southwest Airlines Co. in August, but they paid more per mile than a year ago. The company, which also owns AirTran Airways, said Monday that passenger revenue for every seat flown 1 mile rose 4 percent compared with August 2012. That follows an increase of 4 percent to 5 percent for July.

American Airlines reports increase in traffic, revenue figure

American Airlines says its passenger traffic and a key revenue figure rose in August compared with last summer. The figures released Monday are a sign of continuing solid demand for air travel.

TSA expands PreCheck to 60 additional airports
Successful Meetings
The Transportation Security Administration plans to expand its express security checkpoint program — TSA PreCheck — to 60 new U.S. airports by the end of the year, bringing the total number of airports with TSA PreCheck to 100, it announced.
