The following chairmen were appointed for USPA’s seven standing committees:
Constitution & By-Laws—Mike Mullins
Finance & Budget—Lee Schlichtemeier
Group Membership—Randy Allison
Membership Services—Vic Johnson
Nominations & Elections—B.J. Worth
Safety & Training—Todd Spillers
The board approved a motion to have the membership vote on two changes to the by-laws; one change would be to lengthen board members’ term of office from two years to three years, the other change would be to eliminate the requirement for non-incumbent Regional Directors to submit a petition signed by at least 10 percent of the region’s members in order to be placed on the ballot. If ultimately approved by the membership, the three-year board term would apply after the next election.
A new Basic Safety Requirement was approved regarding tandem skydiving age limits. The new BSR requires all student tandem skydives to be conducted in accordance with the specific manufacturer’s age requirements for the tandem system used for that jump. All of the U.S. tandem manufacturers require that all tandem students be the age of legal majority.
USPA Seeks Nominations for Service Awards

The Membership Services Committee, chaired by Vic Johnson, is tasked with reviewing nominations received from the skydiving community before the May 9 deadline. Nominees meeting all the criteria will be considered by the committee at its July meeting in the Denver area July 8-10
Background information, criteria and procedures for submission are located in Section 8-1 of the Skydiver’s Information Manual. Submissions should be e-mailed to email@example.com or faxed to (540) 604-9741 prior to the deadline.

Selecting U.S. Teams
Currently, the 2011 International Parachuting Commission (IPC) skydiving competition events include the World Cup of Formation Skydiving (FS) and Artistic Events in Germany August 1-7;
the World Cup of Canopy Piloting in the Czech Republic August 22-27; and the 3rd Dubai International Parachuting Championship and Gulf Cup, which includes accuracy landing, canopy formation, canopy piloting (CP) and FS, November 29 to December 10. The Skydiver’s Competition Manual states, “The meet from which the results will be used to select the [U.S.] team[s] must be held at least 60 days prior to the World Championships at which the team will compete.” Skydive Arizona will host the 2011 and 2012 USPA Nationals for all events except canopy piloting during late October to early November. Therefore, U.S. Teams competing at the World Cup in Germany will be selected using the results of the 2010 USPA National Skydiving Championships at Skydive Chicago last September. The U.S. CP Team competing in the Czech Republic will come from the results of Skydive Spaceland’s USPA Nationals meet last September.
As for the Dubai event, teams will be chosen using the results of the 2010 USPA Nationals in Chicago last year and this year’s USPA CP Nationals to be held at Skydive Spaceland in September.
For the 2012 Mondial in Dubai November 29 to December 10, teams will be selected from the results of the 2011 USPA Nationals at Skydive Arizona October 26 to November 5 and the 2012 USPA CP Nationals at Skydive The Farm (exact dates yet to be confirmed but expected to be June or July).
USPA is seeking applicants to serve as team managers for all events and disciplines. Information about the tasks required to serve can be found in Section 11 of the Skydiver’s Competition Manual. Any questions or comments can be addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
