All club and center renewal packets have been mailed; if yours does not arrive by Oct. 7, please contact memberservices@ponyclub.org to let us know. On-line instructions have been included in your packet or may be viewed here for clubs and here for centers.

Early birds take note – packets completed either on-line or hard copy by Oct. 15 will be eligible to win a FREE registration to the 2014 Annual Meeting and Convention in Portland, Ore.

Pony Club Festival

The week-long Pony Club Festival is held every three years at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. National Championships are held the first three days. The following two days consist of mounted and unmounted clinics and workshops presented by Pony Club Graduates, Olympians, and equine professionals. Throughout the week, participants and visitors can shop at the Festival Trade Fair. Festival is open to all Pony Club families with activities for everyone.

Important Information for Club/Center and Regional Leaders Concerning the 2014 National USPC Youth Congress

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL USPC YOUTH CONGRESS (NYC)? The NYC is USPC's way of recognizing outstanding H-B/C+ and up Pony Club members and providing them with an extraordinary opportunity for growth and development through a national conference of approximately 40 youth members and up to 5 outstanding Pony Club alumni. The NYC Program takes place each year the two days prior to the USPC Annual Meeting. The Program consists of group discussions, presentations and interaction with Pony Club Alumni, networking, etc. for youth members and alumni. The NYC culminates in the Honors Banquet at which the outstanding alumni are inducted into the USPC Academy of Achievement.

ICP Workshop Grants Available

The Eleanor Brennan Memorial Fund: The Eleanor Brennan Memorial Fund was established to aid USPC in funding for Instructor Certification Programs for Pony Club Instructors and upper-level members. USPC will award grants up to $500 to applicants that qualify for this scholarship. Fill out the application with required recommendations to be considered for this scholarship.

Prepare to Bid!

Beginning Oct. 15, you will have a chance to bid on Clinics which are being offered by some favorite Pony Club Clinicians, while supporting USPC International Exchanges and Special Programs. Some of the Clinicians who have generously donated their time include (list incomplete): Richard Lamb, Janna Ritacco, Ann Haller, Sue Beth Bunn, Cathie McCleod. The Auction will be held again this year through eBay Giving Works.

We will continue to update the list of Clinicians and items offered, and will send out the link before Oct. 15! Mark your Calendars. This is a great way to schedule clinics for the 2014 season.

WNV Confirmed in Yakima County, Wash., Horse
The Horse
A case of West Nile virus (WNV) has been confirmed in a Yakima County, Wash., horse. The 7-year-old quarter horse gelding was recently pastured in Outlook, and had no history of travel out of the area. He has no vaccination history. The Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Pullman reported the positive test results to the state veterinarian's office on Sept. 25. It is the only confirmed case of WNV in a Washington horse this year.

Riders Gear Up for Pony Camp

Sept. 21 marked the start of pony camp for over 60 children of all ages. Chief instructor, Tonia Marshall, said a campdraft competition was the ice breaker for the children. “In the morning we gave a lesson on the correct way to campdraft and ride, and then we let out the cows and asked the children to give it a go. It was a competition so the winner will be announced tonight,” she said.

It's Not Too Late to Vaccinate Horses Against West Nile
The Horse
As fall approaches, horse owners might be tempted to believe the West Nile virus threat is waning. However, cases of WNV in horses continue to be reported throughout the state of Wyoming. At least 15 have been diagnosed by the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory this season, according to Wyoming State Veterinarian Jim Logan.
