Thanks to the support of our members, Utilimetrics has had a fabulous year. We're thrilled to recap our top 10 achievements in 2010.

1. First Year as a Standalone Association
August marked our one-year anniversary as a standalone organization. Previously we were managed by an association management company that assigned two full-time and several part-time staff members to the Utilimetrics account. We now have eight dedicated full-time staff members working to serve Utilimetrics members.

2. Smart Utility Marketplace
The online industry product and services guide was introduced this summer to rave reviews. Whether you're looking for supplies and services, or simply the essential tools and accessories you need to satisfy your customers, the Smart Utility Marketplace can help.

3. Autovation Earns an A+
Autovation 2010, Sept. 12-15, in Austin, Texas, received high praise from attendees. Highlights included more than 60 educational sessions presented by industry thought leaders, peer networking opportunities, exceptional opening and closing general session featured speakers and an exhibit hall packed with the most innovative industry suppliers featuring state-of-the-art solutions for utilities.     Silicon Valley Power Plugs Into Elster's EnergyAxis® Smart Grid Solution

    Elster recently announced that Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara, Calif.'s, municipal electric utility, has selected Elster's EnergyAxis® Smart Grid solution for deployment across its service area. As part of the "SVP Meter Connect" program, EnergyAxis will provide the utility with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) to bring the environmental and economic benefits of the smart grid to businesses and residents of Santa Clara, Calif. Tropos Networks will provide the infrastructure for backhaul transfer of the data collected and managed by EnergyAxis.More

    Southern California Edison Moving Ahead With Smart Meter Rollout

    Southern California Edison (SCE) is rapidly rolling out a smart meter program that will allow customers to better track their energy use and save money by shifting activities to off-peak hours. SCE, a division of Rosemead-based Edison International, hopes ratepayers will be motivated to use dishwashers, washing machines and other energy-sapping appliances during off-peak times when electricity is cheaper.     Trilliant Incorporated, a Smart Grid communications provider and leader in delivering solutions that enhance energy efficiency, utility operations and renewable resource integration, has won several major contracts that have led to high-tech job creation in its Granby, Quebec, engineering facility. The contract with Iberdrola USA's Central Maine Power (CMP), announced in July, is a Smart Grid deployment that will cover nearly 630,000 residences and the recently announced contract with Centrica's British Gas will provide communications equipment for an initial rollout of over 1 million British Gas customer accounts.     US Government Drafts Fast Track Solar Energy Policy

    The United States Department of the Interior recently announced that it has drafted new environmental policy to fast track utility scale solar power projects in six western states. The policy, known as the Draft Solar Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS), designates 24 sites on public lands in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah for renewable energy projects.More
