Sunday hunting bills reach McAuliffe's desk
Williamsburg Yorktown Daily
Weekend hunters in Virginia may be able to enjoy more hunting opportunities if Gov. Terry McAuliffe signs a law lifting the traditional ban on Sunday hunting within the commonwealth. House Bill 1237, patroned by Del. Todd Gilbert (R-15th District) passed the General Assembly and now is in the hands of the governor. A similar bill, Senate Bill 154, passed the General Assembly.

Threat avoidance
Gun Digest
Reader Chris C. writes: "I listened to your great training on how to avoid gunfights and really like the tactic of aggressive gun presentation and sharp verbal commands, but you didn't talk much about how to avoid risky situations in the first place. Isn't that just as important?"

Answer: You bet Chris. Here are some simple tips to help you avoid being a victim of assault or home burglary that I learned in over 27 years as a cop dealing with the aftermath.

Sig Sauer V-Crown ammo
The Firearm Blog
One of the under-the-radar new products at the 2014 SHOT Show was the appearance of the new Sig Sauer ammo. Sig hosted a private media event prior to the SHOT Show where they let a hand-picked group of media members shoot the company's new firearms. The ammo being shot through the weapons? Sig V-Crown. The Sig V-Crown line uses a jacketed hollow point, and is labeled as "Elite Performance Ammunition." Initially, ammo will be loaded for the 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig and .45 ACP.

The Facebook and Instagram gun speech ban issue
Shall Not Be Questioned
Facebook has released their statement on the effort by anti-gun groups to ban speech and photos by gun owners. The other side is going to declare a win because they are recognized by Facebook for their efforts. In reality, the only impact is that if a post gets "reported" as being any kind of regulated product (not just firearms) for sale, the poster will be reminded that they should follow applicable laws.

Cuccinelli, 3 others start Virginia Self Defense Law firm, defending gun rights
The Washington Post
If you're a law-abiding gun owner, former Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli II would like to be your lawyer — for less than $10 a month. Cuccinelli and three partners have launched Virginia Self Defense Law, a firm focused on defending Second Amendment rights. With bargain-basement pricing and a cheeky slogan — "Defending those who defend themselves" — the venture seeks to tap into a feeling among some gun owners that the right to bear arms is under attack.

Defiant NRA chief draws line against Washington, 'media elites': We will never surrender or submit
The Blaze
In a speech that was both bleak and defiant, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre called on conservative activists to fight Washington and "media elites" who want to "strip our rights away.""You feel it in your heart," LaPierre said at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, held just outside Washington, D.C. "You know it in your gut. Something in our country has gone wrong the core values that we believe in, the things we care about most in our lives, are changing."

Picking the right concealed carry gun
Gun Digest
Drop into any local gun store or log into any firearms forum on the Internet and ask what the "best carry gun" is. You'll get a raft of responses, almost all of which are based on what the responders personally like. What's more, what they personally like may or may not be based on anything other than hearsay — or what their buddies like. Let's look at it a little more logically; choosing a concealed carry gun is really about reaching the right balance for you. You have to consider size, power, efficiency and capacity in your deliberations, and each variable affects the others.

Home defense shotgun: Myths and reality
The Daily Caller
A shotgun is one of the most versatile but hard-to-master firearms available. They are usually (with exception of NFA items) bulky, heavy, slow to reload and hold a laughable amount of ammo.

Brady law has done little to keep guns out of criminals' hands
Investor's Business Daily
Feb. 28 marked the 20th anniversary of the so-called Brady Law, a federal gun control in honor of James Brady, Ronald Reagan's former press secretary who was wounded in John Hinckley's assassination attempt. Since it requires background checks on all guns purchased from federally licensed firearms dealers, gun control advocates celebrated the law's purported effectiveness. The description by the Capitol newspaper The Hill was typical.

Polls find strong support for national gun registry, Keystone XL pipeline
Washington Examiner
Three new polls released found growing and overwhelming support for a national gun registry that could require all gun owners to tell police what they have, including how much ammo they've hidden away. Residents of Virginia, New Jersey and New York back a gun registry by nearly two-to-one or more in the jointly released polls that also found even greater support for building the Keystone XL pipeline that would bring Canadian oil into the United States.
