Hunting big game with an air rifle

Boy have air rifles come a long way. A couple weeks ago a friend shared a video on Facebook about an air rifle that shoots a .45 caliber slug. Interestingly, this week, an article also ended up in my email inbox with even more about this air rifle.

Why does the Left still support federal control of local policing?
Reason.com
Glenn "Instapundit" Reynolds has a great column in USA Today demolishing the idea — floated by the Obama administration and pushed recently by Al Sharpton — that a nationalized police force would somehow be an improvement, from a civil liberties perspective, over the current situation.

Carry responsibly
American Rifleman
For most citizens the decision to start carrying a defensive handgun can be a life-changing event. However, as time goes by, the average citizen begins to realize that this decision will cause major changes in his life and in his lifestyle. Here are a few areas to consider that may require you to alter your approach to the issue of carrying a defensive handgun.

Dynamics of efficient defensive shooting
Gun Digest
Seeking artificially high levels of precision, beyond what the target requires, during an incident is counterproductive to efficient defensive shooting. Working to simply become a better shooter, in other words spending time learning to deliver artificially high levels of precision, may not be the best way to train to survive violent encounters.

GOP bill puts guns in the hands of military spouses to protect from Islamic State threat
The Blaze
Rep. Scott Rigell, R-Va., on May 12 introduced legislation that would let military spouses buy handguns in the state where their husbands and wives are on permanent duty. Rigell said this change is needed after the Islamic State released a "hit list" of military targets, which puts military families at risk of attack. He said that threat means it's critical to ensure that military families have access to guns wherever their service member spouses are serving.

Reloading your own ammunition: Polishing the brass
By Ken Jolly
Polishing the brass is my favorite step in reloading. Since I have not bought any new ammo in years, my brass casings come from range pickups and reusing my own. No matter where you get your brass, it accumulates quickly. You end up with a cache of tarnished and dirty metal that will polish into heaps of gold (or at least it will seem as valuable as gold to you). New cases for pistols sell for about 9 cents per round, so reusing these are a significant savings.

How to master field shooting positions
Gun Digest
When preparing for hunting season, it's important to practice shooting positions that replicate real world scenarios. Most North American big game hunting doesn't afford you the opportunity to use a bench rest or even shoot from the prone position, so it's critical that you become proficient at shooting from the standing, kneeling and sitting positions.
