Targeted? Gun sellers say 'high risk' label from feds cuts off banking options, restricts business
The Washington Times
Gun retailers say the Obama administration is trying to put them out of business with regulations and investigations that bypass Congress and choke off their lines of credit, freeze their assets and prohibit online sales. Since 2011, regulators have increased scrutiny on banks' customers. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in 2011 urged banks to better manage the risks of their merchant customers who employ payment processors, such as PayPal, for credit card transactions. The FDIC listed gun retailers as "high risk" along with porn stores and drug paraphernalia shops.

Man on the street: What's the best cartridge for self-defense?
Guns & Ammo
Opinions surrounding the best rounds for self-defense vary as widely as the guns that chamber them, and there's likely no definite answer in sight — but when the time comes to protect ourselves, a .22 in the pocket is better than a .45 in the safe. G&A wanted to find out which cartridges are most commonly carried these days, so we asked NRA Members what kind of firepower they prefer to pack.

Sussex County Sunday shooting ban repealed for 60 days
VSSA
The Sussex County Board of Supervisors held their regularly scheduled meeting May 15. During the meeting, County Attorney Mike Packer discussed the concerns raised by gun owners and hunters related to the ban on Sunday target shooting passed as part of a larger noise ordinance change on April 17. He said that if an emergency ordinance is approved, the board can "repeal" the section dealing with Sunday shooting (Section 5). He also said the matter would have to come back before the Board within 60 days because an emergency ordinance would expire in 60 days. Any permanent change would require a public hearing. There was some discussion about how the Board exempt gun noise and not loud music but Vice Chairman Robert Hamlin responded that loud music and gunfire noise is not the same.

Smart guns: Betting your life on your iPhone?
American Rifleman
By Mark Keefe: "The NRA Firearms Sourcebook defines a firearm as 'An assembly of a barrel and action from which a projectile is propelled through a deflagration of propellant.' I love that word: deflagration. Webster's defines to deflagrate as 'to burn down' or 'to burn rapidly with intense heat and sparks being given off.' It is hot and violent. Deflegration is not a place where I want my iPhone. I have enough trouble getting mine to read a thumbprint after eating a hamburger, let alone the stressful circumstances that might occur when I would actually need to use a firearm defensively."

Bloomberg: We need to make the National Rifle Association afraid of us
VSSA
Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg appeared on CBS's Face the Nation to talk gun control. The Hill has the report here. Bloomberg continued his usual twaddle about how the NRA instills fear in elected officials: "We need to make the Congress understand that the vast preponderance of the public does not want criminals, minors or people with psychiatric problems to be able to buy guns," he said on CBS's "Face the Nation." "And we've gotta make Congress understand that and vote that way."

Craig stands by 2nd Amendment support in wake of NRA magazine cover story
The Detroit News
Police Chief James Craig recently reiterated his support for the Second Amendment in the wake of a National Rifle Association magazine cover story that featured the chief advocating for gun rights. During a one-on-one interview with The Detroit News, and a press conference outside police headquarters later, Craig said he not only supports the right to bear arms, but Michigan's Open Carry law, which allows licensed gun owners to carry their firearms in non-restricted areas, as long as they're not concealed.

Hybrid holsters for concealed carry
Gun Digest
Hybrid holsters have become hugely popular in the last few years. One such is Mark Craighead's Crossbreed brand, so popular the brand has become almost a generic term for this sort of rig. As the name implies, the hybrids comprise a mating of leather with Kydex or polymer. The portion that encompasses the gun on the outside is made of the hard synthetic, while the leather is used to form a broad backing between wearer and holster, separating and protecting one from the other.

Cheap reliable 1911 for CCW? Shooters Arms Scout
Guns.com
The 1911 is the M1 Garand of handguns. The classic and powerful handgun is an example of what a pistol should be. This classic .45 automatic is a perfect balance between function and form. It's complicated, but not needlessly so, like all Browning designs, it's very elegant. From its brilliant trigger design to the unobtrusive grip safety. Every shortcoming of John Moses Browning's magnum opus can be overcome with enough cash. The only real issue with the 1911 is price. This is doubly true when it comes to concealed carry appropriate models.

5 mature buck myths dashed
American Hunter
By Frank Miniter: "When I ask deer researchers what GPS-collar studies are telling them about mature-buck movement the first thing they all tell me is 'mature bucks are individuals.' No deer hunter who has tried to pattern more than one mature buck would dispute that, but this answer bothers me, as it insinuates there are no concrete answers. So I push the deer biologists for more and they say things like: 'Well, on deeper analysis we can fit many bucks into different personality profiles; when you know a buck's personality type you can better predict its movement.'"
