Barrett: Santa Barbara Massacre defies gun control, mental health proposals
VSSA
Bloomberg Businessweek's Paul Barrett is not pro-rights. He does however from swerve into the truth from time to time even if he does throw some snark at gun owners and the NRA in the process. He has this article on the UC Santa Barbara slayings. Like most of the mainstream media, he lops all of the murdered in with the shootings. Three of the six slain were stabbed. It's not till the end of the article when he discusses the comments on the slayings of Richard Feldman in Human Events that Barrett mentions the stabbings.

Hunting effort targeting deer in Front Royal
NVDaily.com
A program designed to help curtail the urban deer population in town appears to be working. Town Council heard a report this week from Whit Wagner, a representative with Suburban Whitetail Management of Northern Virginia, on the results of several hunting events held in Front Royal. Town Manager Steve Burke advised that all hunting is prohibited in Front Royal. The town authorized whitetail management to act as its agent to implement the local wildlife management program.

#GUNVOTE 2014: Don't risk your rights
NSSF
The 2014 elections, particularly the most closely contested races for U.S. Senate seats, offer two possibilities. The first is for our industry and consumers to join forces with other pro-Second Amendment groups and individuals to lead the way in electing enough new pro-gun lawmakers to ensure that the anti-gun agenda can't pass in either chamber of Congress during the final two years of the Obama administration. The alternative is the very real prospect of anti-gun candidates succeeding in enough close races to provide the handful of votes needed to resurrect and ramrod a sweeping roster of proposed restrictions through the Senate.

After the UCSB killings
National Review Online
In the wake of a mass murder in Isla Vista, Califonia, critics of America's gun laws have been predictably quick to trot out the classics, advocating the passage of new restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms and blaming the National Rifle Association for opposing what are invariably termed "common sense" reforms. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut took to Face the Nation to claim that if Congress had passed his preferred measures last year, it would have "finally" put a "stop the madness" and brought an "end the insanity that has killed too many young people." This is nonsense.

Memo to gun-control advocates: Even Elliot Rodger believed guns would have deterred him
Fox News
How can we prevent mass murderers? Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old who killed six innocent people in California, is causing everyone to ask that question, yet again. Rodger spent over a year and a half meticulously planning his attack. His 141-page "manifesto" makes it clear that he feared someone with a gun could stop him before he was able to kill a lot of people.

Could the California shooting revive gun control?
The Washington Post
No one was surprised that there was a mass shooting in California. After all, this is the United States of America, the mass-shooting capital of the world. In response, a few members of Congress are hoping to revive the gun control debate. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said on "Face the Nation" that he wants to push some kind of updated version of the Manchin-Toomey bill that would expand background checks, among other things.

Congress: Obama uses Justice Dept. to target gun sellers, 'high risk' businesses
The Washington Times
Operation Choke Point, a credit card fraud task force run by the Justice Department, was created to "choke out" businesses the Obama administration finds objectionable, according to a congressional committee report obtained by The Washington Times. The administration is knowingly targeting so-called "high risk" businesses — which include payday lenders, gun retailers and ammunition merchants — despite the fact they are legitimate, says a staff report by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The new media darling
Shall Not Be Questioned
The father of one of the shooting victims, Richard Martinez, is likely going to be someone we're going to be seeing a lot of. He's been plastered all over the media ever since the shooting, because he was on the stump immediately demanding gun control and badmouthing the NRA by association its members.

It is time to stop blaming the NRA and the Constitution for madmen like Elliot Rodger
CDN
Elliot Rodger committed a horrifying mass murder. Yet somehow, this is the fault of the NRA. Richard Martinez is the father of one of the victims. His son, Chris Martinez, was shot by Rodger. Richard Martinez held a press conference where he immediately politicized his son's death by blaming the NRA. The senior Martinez, losing his child, is understandably heartbroken and he simply wants to blame the NRA.

AR-15 trigger trouble
Gun Digest
By Richard A. Mann: "It's no secret that Mil Spec AR triggers are terrible. They have everything a good trigger does not have, like take-up, creep, over-travel and inconsistency. Because of this, a number of manufacturers offer aftermarket triggers for the AR-15 and the AR-10. I could recommend most any of these triggers, but, more importantly, let me explain to you what a good trigger actually is."

Guns & Ammo
Opinions surrounding the best rounds for self-defense vary as widely as the guns that chamber them, and there's likely no definite answer in sight — but when the time comes to protect ourselves, a .22 in the pocket is better than a .45 in the safe.
