NRA clarifies position on Open Carry Texas
VSSA
The NRA recently issued a statement on the situation that has unfolded in Texas with proponents of open carry of handguns, carrying long guns into businesses. Currently, the open carry of handguns is illegal in Texas while gun owners may open carry long guns. If this sounds just nuts to you, it reminds me of when concealed carry of handguns in Virginia was illegal in family restaurants that serve alcohol while open carry in those same eating establishments was legal.

VSSA
Emily Miller, formerly Washington Times editorial writer and now Investigative Reporter with DC's Fox News 5, appeared on the station's Good Day DC on June 2 to talk about the Justice Department's Operation Choke Point. Choke Point is an initiative that USDOJ claims is set up to protect consumers from shady businesses that are breaking the law, but it increasingly is associated with shutting down legal businesses like firearm retailers and ammunition retailers. That's right, the official Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation list includes firearm and ammunition sales.

Anti-gun group pushing smart guns as a means to take away all other firearms
Ammo Land
New Jersey passed a law in 2002 stating once "smart guns" are available for purchase in the United States, it will trigger a ban on the sale of traditional types of firearms and force all guns sold/transferred to be smart guns. Because there is now a $1,800 .22 "smart gun" available, a lawsuit was filed by the Brady Campaign to force the New Jersey Attorney General to "formally report" the availability of so-called "smart guns." It smacks of a back-door gun ban.

Google Glass gets TrackingPoint app

VideoBrief While they announced their plans to integrate "wearables" with the launch of their first fighting rifles, seeing is believing, and even then it's still mind-blowing. This sort of technology feels like it should be further out but nope, it's real, it exists today, and it's only a matter of time before it becomes standard-issue. These may be prototypes but the writing is on the wall.

Bloomberg Businessweek's Paul Barrett is not pro-rights. He does, however, swerve into the truth from time to time even if he does throw some snark at gun owners and the NRA in the process. He has this article on the UC Santa Barbara slayings. Like most of the mainstream media, he lops all of the murdered in with the shootings. Three of the six slain were stabbed.

Why you need a carbine for home defense
Guns.com
When it comes to defending your home and the loved-ones within, many of the characteristics that make an ideal brush-gun or hunting rifle are actually detrimental in a home-defense situation. Still, shooters have to take into account over-penetration, training costs, ammo selection and reliability. It's enough to make the saltiest gun-owner's head spin and often acts as a tremendous barrier to first-time gun-buyers trying to responsibly research before their purchase.

Concealed carry: Holster alternatives for women
Gun Digest
If you're an armed woman with a concealed carry permit you've declared your independence from fear. However, holster considerations may be different for you because of the delights of physiology. The gentle arc from hip to waist is more profound on many women making the top of the gun or holster "bite" when using an inside-the-waistband holster. While many women prefer a tailored look and thin belts, belt carry is prone to "print" or wobble.
