Lawyer and blogger Dave Hardy had this post at Arms and the Law sharing a Reuters article about the massive shift in the make up of the federal circuit court districts. In 2009, only the 9th Circuit was predominantly made up of Democratic appointees with the 2nd Circuit split 50-50. Today, less than half (the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th) are majority Republican appointees. Hardy notes that both the Democrat and Republican circuits have massive imbalances in appointees.

John B. Fischer over at The Atlantic wants to explore the question "Is it morally acceptable to love machine guns?" He wonders, how can one love guns knowing they kill people in this "era of mass violence"? The answer to that question, as Fischer finds out, is because it is fun. Or as he describes, "Plus, as I discovered, shooting was a genuine thrill—not unlike the adrenaline rush of driving a car at illegally high speeds."

A modern 1911 still shoots a powerful .45 ACP cartridge but we can now construct guns faster, more easily and more efficiently and end up with a better product. But have we significantly changed the methodology or truly addressed any significant areas of potential problems in the design?

Women are the fastest growing segment of the firearms market, and the reason cited by a majority of these women for obtaining firearms is self-defense, and the defense of their families. While some of these women will buy a home defense gun and leave it there, many more are opting to carry concealed when out with their families, which often include small children and babies.

The use of semantics to avoid accountability became "Clintonian" after Bill Clinton denied he lied straight-faced about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been playing an even less sophisticated semantic game. She said “there was nothing marked classified” in the emails she sent or received on a private email account and has since been trying to explain this away by defining "marked" and so much more that even her supporters must be mouthing Sir Walter Scott's line: "Oh, what a very tangled web we weave ... when first we practice to deceive."

Sometimes, we get so caught up in trying to teach marksmanship we lose sight of the fact that we got into shooting because it was fun. You might consider that a teaching session could begin with emphasis on the principles of marksmanship — breath control, sight picture, and trigger squeeze — but be sure to allow equal, or more, time for some fun shooting.

Proper practice does include draw-and-dry-fire, but sooner or later, you have to actually get yourself to the range and put real, live ammo into the backstop. That costs money and puts wear and tear on your pistol. There is also the minor matter of lead exposure.

There's an abundance of reduced-recoil buckshot and slug loads on the market nowadays, not because ammunition companies are marketing toward the elderly, kids or hipsters, but rather because they offer real advantages for home defenders. Namely, low-recoil loads produce better accuracy, faster follow-up shots and yes — less pain for the shooter — while not compromising significant terminal performance.

If you have a desire to be more prepared or to shoot better, there's a good chance you would love to know how to perform better in extreme stress. It could be reacting to a family member having a life-threatening emergency, responding to a natural or man-made disaster, stopping a lethal force threat or everyday life challenges. It's important to ask why different people with the same training, using the same technique, perform so differently when the adrenaline flows.

The primary purpose of a shooting sling is to provide additional stability by making the interface between the shooter and the rifle more rigid. A shooting sling is not ideally adapted to close-quarter engagements or tactical carry—its principal intent is to assist with marksmanship at distance.
