Debt Sale Provides S&P Boost for Clearwire

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services lifted its highly speculative-grade rating on WCAI member Clearwire to CCC+ from CCC, saying the company's recent debt sale will provide enough liquidity to fund its business at least through the middle of 2012. The move came after the telecommunications-network provider successfully completed a $1.33 billion capital-raising effort. Clearwire is looking to bolster its liquidity as it seeks to complete building its 4G wireless network in the United States. More
LightSquared Suffers Satellite Glitch, Stays on Track for LTE Launch in US

WCAI member LightSquared confirmed a minor malfunction in its recently launched satellite, but said its buildout plans for its wholesale LTE network remain on target. The satellite, which launched Nov. 14, has a slight glitch that is preventing its antenna reflector from opening properly, according to Boeing, which put the satellite into orbit. The satellite will supplement LightSquared's terrestrial network and provide voice and data connectivity. LightSquared spokesman Tom Surface said Boeing has told the company it is expecting an early 2011 delivery, which is what the company had planned. He said progress for 2011 remains on track. More
