Survey: Women in tech don't get the same respect as men
A majority of Americans believe that women working in the tech industry don't receive the same level of respect as their male counterparts, according to a survey released recently. The online survey of 3,000 people also revealed that about 73 percent of Americans think having more women participating in technology would increase creativity and innovation. The survey was sponsored by Mediaocean, a New York-based advertising-tech firm founded in 2012.

Jade Raymond: You can't have an inspired game without inspired teams
Jade Raymond is best-known as the producer of "Assassin's Creed," and executive producer of the second and arguably best of the "Assassin's Creed" games. However, before joining Ubisoft she also saw the coalface of video game production first at Sony Online Entertainment and subsequently as producer of Electronic Arts' early attempt to bring its money-spinning "Sims" franchise online in the massively multiplayer "The Sims Online." Since leaving Ubisoft, Raymond has been quiet on her longer-term plans, instead working with indies in her native Canada.

The program is a 90% on-line, low residency program that offers students the opportunity to learn in a virtual environment that simulates a working game production studio where, within structured classes they conceptualize, design and build their own games.

Superdata: Global games market at $74.2 billion annually
The worldwide gaming industry is estimated to bring in $74.2 billion this year, according to Superdata. The research firm today released its Global Games Market Report 2015, offering a snapshot of where it sees games at the moment and where it expected the industry to go in the future.

You have to see what you're playing: Why the camera is so important in games
Most of us don't notice the "camera" in a game until it does something badly. Once the action is obscured or we wrestle with an objective because we can barely see it, the movement of the camera takes center stage. It's almost always a horrible thing.

Why Japan's lucrative mobile gaming market isn't great for foreign developers
Mobile game spending is higher in Japan than any other market, but that doesn't mean you should necessarily do the work to localize your product for that country. It's easy to look at Japan and assume that if you're making a game you should release it in there as well, but the raw data is deceiving, according to Kantan Games analyst Serkan Toto.

I Make Games — video channel providing female role models in game development
Women in Games International and International Game Developers Association

Research shows that middle school girls are interested in developing video games, but they often lose confidence as they get older. Role models can make a difference. I Make Games is a new campaign sponsored by WIGI and IGDA to provide female role models in game development.

Our goal is to cultivate a YouTube channel that female game developers are continually adding to, with their own stories about game development. We are reaching out to developers, asking them to help seed the channel with videos. Please check out to see the research, and learn how to create your own videos for the channel.
