Calling all professionals!
HERC is in need of eight-10 mock interviewers at the annual conference. The session is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2:15-3:30 p.m. Future professionals can improve their interview skills by completing mock interviews given by current professionals and receive personalized feedback on what they are already doing well and what areas they should continue to work on. This interactive workshop will assist community centers and organizations in more effectively connecting with and engaging diverse communities. Attendees will learn more about issues related to diverse populations, how to build networks and use various forms of media to increase program participation and increase attendance at events. In addition, examples of successful outreach programs in other regions will be examined.

Agency looks to expand Hanford Reach
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has notified the Department of Energy that it wants to look into opportunities to expand the Hanford Reach National Monument with newly cleaned-up Hanford nuclear reservation land. That concerns the Tri-City Development Council, which said Fish and Wildlife control of the land could mean it would remain largely off-limits to the public.

Seattle tax district would support parks and community centers

Following a recommendation to fund a $270 million maintenance backlog to city parks, Mayor Ed Murray is backing a new tax to foot the bill. Recently, Murray announced his proposal to establish a metropolitan parks taxing district that would soon go before the City Council, and, if passed, require voter approval. The measure would raise $54 million annually through a property tax to repair and upkeep Seattle parks, community centers, and destinations like Woodland Park Zoo and the waterfront aquarium.

Kennewick arts, parks and recreation groups share 2014 plans
The News Tribune
Metal horse artwork at Kennewick's south Highway 395 entrance, a second community garden and a new pathway are among the projects Kennewick's parks and recreation and arts groups plan to tackle in the next year. The two commissions updated the Kennewick City Council on their 2014 plans recently.
