Brainstorming safety at Roxhill Park and Westwood Village

Roxhill Park in West Seattle has a lot to offer: a new skatepark and top-notch playground, wide open green space with mini-soccer goals for little ones to learn the game, the headwaters of Longfellow Creek and a shining example of plant diversity thanks to the wooded wetland "bog" taking up the east side of the park. Amongst the positives, however, there are growing public safety concerns at Roxhill.

States end Sno-Park reciprocity
The Columbian
Washington has ended reciprocity with Oregon and other states when it comes to honoring winter recreation parking permits. In other words, an Oregon Sno-Park permit bought to downhill ski at Mount Hood will no longer do double duty at the cross-country, snowshoe and snowmobile lots in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Washington has honored permits from other states since 1978.

Program to train Master Naturalists
Bellevue Reporter
Applications are now being accepted for Bellevue's Master Naturalist Training Program. The program, offered from Jan. 10 to May 30, will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Deadline to apply for the program is Dec. 13. Those in the program will learn about the area’s ecology, geology, wildlife, plant life, cultural history, wetlands, forests, and streams from professors, local professionals, scientists, research assistants, and Park Rangers.

Skateboarding club brings new life to skating culture

There are clubs to satisfy most any hobby and passion at Whitman, but for the skateboarding community, a small but tight-knit and enthusiastic group, the idea to create a formal club hasn't been much more than just an idea. This year, however, a group of passionate skaters has taken the initiative. With everything in place and only a final proposal to go over with ASWC, a skateboarding club at Whitman is almost a fully formed entity.
