Prostate Cancer Mortality Lower With Radical Surgery

Prostate cancer patients who undergo radical prostatectomy have a better prognosis than those who undergo radiation therapy after the development of metastatic disease, researchers reported online ahead of print in European Urology. Dr. Yu-Hsuan Joni Shao and colleagues at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick, studied 66,492 men diagnosed with PCa. Of these, 51,337 received radiotherapy, and 15,155 underwent radical prostatectomy within one year of cancer diagnosis.

15 Percent Of Physicians Declining EHRs

Nearly all U.S. doctors responding to a recent Accenture survey said they use electronic health records. But a new report from Deloitte shows a somewhat different picture: Just two-thirds of physicians said they have an EHR capable of showing Meaningful Use, and 45 percent of the remaining third, or about 15 percent of all respondents, said they have no plans to purchase an EHR that meets MU criteria.

Conservative vs Aggressive Treatment In Older Prostate Cancer Patients

A new cohort study says older men with prostate cancer who have other health conditions that put them at risk of mortality within 10 years should consider their prostate cancer treatment options carefully. Survival data of prostate cancer patients 70 and older show that those with three or more comorbidities and low- or intermediate-risk prostate cancer are less likely to die from prostate cancer than another health issue.
