Morning Practice Management Course in Maui
In conjunction with the pioneering the efforts of the California Urological Association, the Western Section has added a new program to help its members deal with the issue of workplace violence, threat awareness, prevention, and response. The first in a series of courses will be offered this year in conjunction with the Western Section AUA Annual Meeting in Maui.

Applications for the 2015-2016 Gallagher Health Policy Scholar program are now being accepted. Deadline is Oct. 17
Since 2007, the AUA has offered urologists a unique opportunity to explore policy issues that impact urology through the Gallagher Health Policy Scholar program.
Applicants must be AUA member urologists who have demonstrated a
commitment to or have a keen interest in the field of health policy and
who are dedicated to advancing urology's health policy agenda.
Interested urologists can apply ktuinstra@AUAnet.org by Oct. 17.
Scholars will spend up to 30 days away from their practice for intensive training on a wide range of health policy issues.

during the Maui meeting that is directed toward our Advanced Practice
Provider (APP) attendees, nurse practitioners and other allied

Premature Ejaculation Linked to Chlamydia in Prostatitis Patients

Chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis is associated with a greater likelihood of premature ejaculation than CBP due to infection with other bacteria, according to a recent report. Tommaso Cai, M.D., of Santa Chiara Regional Hospital in Trento, Italy, and colleagues compared 317 patients diagnosed with C. trachomatis CBP (group A) with 639 patients with CBP caused by other uropathogic bacteria (group B). PE was identified in 118 men in group A and 73 in group B, a significant difference in prevalence, Dr. Cai's team reported online ahead of print in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Are You Ready for the New Prescription Drug Prior Authorization Form Required on Oct. 1?
Over the next several months, a new law will take effect that streamlines and standardizes the prior authorization process for prescription drugs. The new law (SB 866) requires all insurers, health plans (and their contracting medical groups/IPAs) and providers to use a standardized two-page form for prior authorizations of prescription medications.
Advocacy Organizations File Lawsuit Over Medi-Cal Backlog
Recently, a coalition of advocacy groups filed a lawsuit in Alameda County Superior Court over a backlog of Medi-Cal applications, the AP/Sacramento Bee reports.
Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. About 2.2 million additional Californians signed up for Medi-Cal under the Affordable Care Act's expansion of the program. A total of about 11 million state residents now are covered by the program, according to the Los Angeles Times' "L.A. Now."
House Bill Would Reduce 2015 Meaningful Use Reporting Period
On Sept. 16, House lawmakers introduced a bill (HR 5481) that would grant eligible professionals and hospitals more flexibility in fiscal year 2015 to meet reporting requirements for the meaningful use program, Clinical Innovation & Technology reports.

The president-elect of the American Medical Association says there is "a crying need" to make electronic health record systems "time-saving rather than efficiency-diminishing." New Mobile Passport Control App Being Piloted in Atlanta
U.S. Customs and Border Protection let travelers use its new mobile passport control app for the first time at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, provided they were American or Canadian. Atlanta is the only airport piloting the app, which allows travelers to forgo the traditional customs declarations paper forms. The airport approached the CBP to pilot the app through the Airports Council International-North America, says Jennifer Evanitsky, a CBP spokeswoman.
