Bubank, California City Council votes to move forward with retail pet sale ban

The Burbank City Council has decided to proceed with efforts to draft an ordinance to ban the retail sale of dogs and cats within the city. Earlier this year, the City of Burbank Community Development Committee was assigned the task of compiling a report consisting of different options on how to address a ban. The Committee presented its report at the Oct. 16 City Council meeting and it was decided by a 3-2 vote to proceed with the ban. As the ordinance is pending introduction by the City Council, PIJAC will be on the lookout for the language and public hearing date when it becomes available. More

Pet owners confused on pet nutrition, petfood labeling, petMD finds

A recent petMD survey about pet nutrition found that pet owners are confused about the nutritional needs of their dogs and cats. Although 57 percent of pet owners surveyed said they look at pet food labels for information about the pet food's ingredients, the survey found pet owners often misinterpret the information on the labels. Growing larger by the month, Seattle-based Animal Supply Co. acquired another distributor this week, expanding into the East Coast with the addition of Summit Pet Product Distributors. Terms were not disclosed other than a notice that Summit Pet president Jay Joyce, senior vice president Mike Copeland and the company's managing partners became equity investors in Animal Supply.
