Big-box stores and supermarkets will devote more shelf space to healthier pet products, marketing consultant Leslie May predicted this month in her blog. Study: DNA in dogs, wolves may explain diet preferences

Over time, dogs have evolved from their wolf ancestors to be able consume and digest the starches in varied pet food diets found today, according to a recent study conducted by scientists in Sweden. Evolutionary geneticist, Erik Axelsson, of Uppsala University, compared the DNA of dogs and wolves to determine which genes were important for domestication. The researchers looked at DNA from 12 wolves worldwide and from 60 dogs belonging to 14 breeds. More launches 'If Pets Could Talk' app to promote pet insurance

New York City to launch pet adoption department

New York City plans to launch an adoption department for stray dogs, cats and other pets. The adoption service would mark a new strategy for New York City Animal Care and Control. It plans to have it running within a year. Finding homes for stray animals has largely been left to private groups. The new department would have 10 to 12 staff members and would actively seek homes for the animals. More
