House Bill 1621 establishes the Hawaii "Large Scale Dog Breeders Regulation Act" and is set for hearing on Tuesday, Febr. 8. The Act requires licensing for "large scale dog breeders" and declares the Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs as the authority over the proposed regulations. This legislation also imposes a limit of 50 on the number of dogs (over six months of age) breeders may possess. More

City officials in Lake Worth, Florida, have proposed a ban on the sale of dogs and cats at pet stores. A public hearing on the measure is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011. As introduced, ordinance 2011-05 would prohibit a pet store from selling or offering to sell or transfer dogs or cats in Lake Worth. More

Though debate over national health coverage continues, cats and dogs have nothing to fear. Americans spent $12.4 billion on veterinary care in 2009 and another $3 billion on medication alone. Oregon considers new fees for pet food and remedies

Legislation introduced in the 2011 session to establish new fees for pet food manufacturers, and fee increases on the sale of animal remedies, biologics and pharmaceuticals, was scheduled for a hearing on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 in the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. Because of the volume of items on that agenda, the House Bill 2120 has been removed. However, it is expected to be placed again on the agenda for a hearing in the near future. More
