NYC pushes tax credits for pet adopters

New York officials and animal rights advocates are coming together to back a state bill that would give anyone who adopts a pet from a New York animal shelter a tax credit of $100, or $300 for up to three animals, per year, reports nypost.com. The bill is sponsored by Kevin Parker, a state senator from Brooklyn, and would cover all domesticated animals offered for adoption at the state's animal shelters.

AKC redesigns its website and logo

The American Kennel Club has launched its fully redesigned, mobile-optimized website, akc.org. The company has also redesigned its logo, which is a streamlined, modern take on the historic organization's traditional brand symbol. "We spent more than a year immersed in research and discovery to ensure we presented a redesigned platform that would not only serve the members of our sport, but also the millions of dog owners around the country," said Dennis Sprung, president and CEO, AKC.

A rare victory for beaglekind at Westminster Dog Show

The competition was rough, but it didn't matter: Miss P, 4-year-old beagle extraordinaire, took down all comers at the Westminster Dog Show. "She is a princess," handler Will Alexander told the Associated Press. But P's royal bearing didn't prevent her from totally humiliating all members of the species Canis lupus familiaris that dared enter Madison Square Garden to challenge her for Best in Show.
