Sources: Premium pet food firm Blue Buffalo picks IPO bookrunners

Blue Buffalo, the premium pet food company, has hired banks for an initial public offering that could come later this year, three people familiar with the company said. The Wilton, Connecticut-based company, which makes healthy food for cats and dogs, has selected JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Inc. to lead the IPO, the people said.

With pet ownership set to boom, Chinese pet product e-store nets $25 million in funding

Shanghai-based pet products e-store Boqii has just completed a $25 million series B funding round, according Chinese tech blog 36kr. The investors are as-yet unnamed but reportedly hail from the U.S. and possibly include Goldman Sachs, which also participated in the startup's series A round last June.

Experts: UK faces fat pet epidemic as 68 percent of owners fail to feed animals appropriately

Britain is facing a pet obesity epidemic, the U.K. pet industry has warned, as new figures emerged that suggest almost half of all animals taken to the vet are considered overweight. According to a report, "Pet Obesity: Five Years On," the vast majority of vets believe that the issue has got markedly worse since 2009 and call for urgent action to be taken by owners.
