Pet Supplies Plus, a 25-year-old franchise with nearly 300 stores, is looking to open both corporate and franchised stores in new and underserved markets this year. In 2014, the retail chain will specifically target fast growing markets from Florida to Minnesota, including areas in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Texas for franchise development.

According to a recent study, spending on Internet advertising in the U.S. totaled a record $10.7 billion in the third quarter of 2013, which is a 15 percent increase from the same quarter in 2012. In the pet industry, this is something we are seeing more companies embrace and find successful. However, that doesn't mean you can just throw together a Facebook page and expect customers to flock to you. To stand out, it's important to really know who are your potential customers and target your efforts to that demographic.

2 flea collar makers agree to stop using Propoxur
Pet Product News
Sergeant's Pet Care Products Inc. and Wellmark International have agreed to phase out the use of the chemical propoxur in pet flea collars. The announcement followed the filing of a lawsuit in February by the Natural Resources Defense Council, which has been pushing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to act on previous petitions that urged the government to ban propoxur in flea-control products.
