Mystery of pet deaths related to jerky treats made in China continues to stump FDA
The Washington Post
Since the FDA first warned consumers in 2007 of an apparent link between jerky treats and sick and dying dogs, agency officials have spent countless hours trying to nail down the exact cause behind the illnesses, with little success. FDA officials have called it "one of the most elusive and mysterious outbreaks" they have encountered and said it has been painful, "personally and professionally," to have gone so long without cracking the case.

Global Harvest buys Scotts wild bird food lines

Global Harvest Foods Ltd., the maker of Audubon Park bird food, has purchased competitor Scotts Miracle-Gro Co.'s wild bird food business. The takeover includes three Scotts brands — Songbird Selections, Morning Song and Country Pride — and factories in Reynolds, Ind.; Doland, S.D.; and Uvalde, Texas. The purchase price was not disclosed.
