Animal abuse registry fails in Maryland

Companion legislation, Senate Bill 301 and House Bill 1020, establishing the Maryland Animal Abuse Registry did not survive in this session of the Maryland General Assembly. House Bill 1020 was withdrawn from further consideration by the House Judiciary Committee on March 21, and SB 301 died in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on March 26 as it missed the General Assembly's crossover deadline. Bayer Healthcare LLC's Animal Health Division is launching a consumer marketing campaign to encourage pet owners to visit their veterinarian in April as part of National Heartworm Awareness Month. Bayer Animal Health will contact owners through a direct mail and email campaign in April that will reach nearly three million pet owners in the U.S., the Shawnee, Kan.-based company said. More
