P&G selling pet food brands to Mars for $2.9 billion
Reuters
Procter & Gamble Co. is selling the bulk of its pet food business to Mars Inc. for $2.9 billion to focus more on its personal care and cleaning brands, the companies said. In an all-cash deal, privately held Mars will buy the Iams brand, as well as Eukanuba and Natura, in the Americas and other selected countries, which account for 80 percent of P&G Pet Care's global sales.

From french fries to kitty litter, USDA scientists work to improve lives

If you're a cat person, you may someday see USDA science impact your pet. USDA scientists have developed a kitty litter product that's nearly 100 percent biodegradable and made from spent grains, often referred to as dried distiller's grains, leftover from the process of making corn ethanol. DDGs are often used as cattle feed, but this new product may provide a higher-value market for the tons of DDGs leftover after ethanol production.

According to the event's website, this is the world's largest social media marketing conference, where about 2,000 marketing professionals get together every year to network and share their best practices on social media marketing. I met with many thought leaders at the conference and was able to hear various cases of using social media in sales and marketing in a variety of industry sectors. But there was one core principle that can be applied to any business in social media marketing.
