Texas State Aquarium to sue over fish kill from mislabeled chemical

Attorneys for the Texas State Aquarium filed a lawsuit May 14 against the company that provided a lethal chemical labeled as a parasite treatment, resulting in the death of nearly 400 fish at the facility in April. President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Schmid during a news conference said final test results on a chemical believed to have been trichlorfon, a commonly used treatment for parasites in fish, proved identical to the outcome of preliminary tests.

Mobile advertising growth steadies

Mobile as a percentage of all online interactions did not grow in Q1, showing signs that consumer use of the media continues to steady with few spikes and dips in a day, according to one report. Some 44.9 percent of females used desktop, compared with 48.8 percent of males, with mobile taking 55.1 and 51.2 percent share among males.

In the US, gluten-free pet food might be maxed out

If you haven't been paying attention to the pet supplies aisle in your local food market, you may have missed the appearance there of gluten-free pet food. But don't worry, after a blockbuster entrance, it looks like the growth in U.S. sales may already have peaked. Sales doubled over the last three years, according to research from GfK, now accounting for about $700 million annually.

Ohio veterinarian confirms health benefits of pet ownership

Dr. Scott Leffler, DVM, of the Animal Medical Center of Streetsboro, Ohio, confirms what the Human-Animal Bond Research Initiative Foundation, a nonprofit research and education initiative based in Washington, D.C., revealed in its 2015 HABRI survey — that owning a pet is good for a person's health. And it's not just Leffler who's convinced that pets are a balm for people. Some 97 percent of doctors believe patients reap health benefits from owning a pet, according to HABRI, which found that 69 percent of physicians it surveyed have successfully worked with animal patient therapy or treatment.
