Employing the not-so-good strategy to get to the right strategy
Fast Company    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Ancient Buddhists had a word for a concept of "adaptive strategy" that is just as relevant now. Instead of ignoring all but one way forward, we should pragmatically pick from the best of all strategies, whether in politics, economics, or social innovation. More

Commentary: The 5 stages of leadership development
CBS Money Watch    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Everyone goes through the same stages of human development on the road to adulthood and maturity. Los Angeles to consider ban on pet sales
PIJAC    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Several smaller California jurisdictions have proposed, and a number have adopted, bans on the sale of pets. The City of Los Angeles now appears poised to join them. Last year the L.A. City Council adopted a motion by Councilman Paul Koretz calling for the study of a possible ban on the sale of certain pets. While the resulting review did not produce specific recommendations, a similar motion has again been made by Councilman Koretz, and an overwhelming favorable vote by the City Council suggests that an ordinance to impose a ban on pet sales will receive broad support among members of the Council. If such a ban is adopted, Los Angeles will have become the largest jurisdiction by far, anywhere in the country, to prohibit the sale of dogs, cats and other such pets. More

USDA targets Internet breeders with proposed definition change
DVM Newsmagazine    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is proposing a revision to its definition of "retail pet store" to close a loophole that many dog and cat breeders have slipped through for years — a loophole watchdogs say has endangered the health and welfare of pets sold over the Internet and via phone- and mail-based businesses for too long.
