Bill to aid small business passes House

The House of Representatives has passed a bill to make credit available to small business, a measure pushed by President Barack Obama to stimulate hiring at a time of high unemployment. The measure passed by a vote of 241 to 182. The Senate has yet to vote on the bill. The bill would funnel credit to small and medium size businesses through local banks. More

Bill to amend New York pet dealer law poised for adoption

Assembly Bill 10509 and Senate Bill 7511 amend several provisions of the existing Pet Dealer act to mandate isolation areas, specific requirements for veterinary care, and exercise requirements. The bill language is attached to the online version of this PetAlert, which can be found on the Breaking News page of the PIJAC website. The legislation would create new requirements with which pet dealers would have to comply. More

New York bill to mandate pet store license revocation hearings

Under the existing Pet Dealer law in New York, pet stores may not have their licenses suspended or revoked without a hearing. This is basic due process guaranteed by our Constitution. However, S 7655 and A 10906 would require that a hearing be held to suspend or revoke the license of any pet store that has either "failed three consecutive inspections" or has failed three inspections "in a three year period." More

No illnesses have been reported, and the voluntary recall is based on "an isolated instance," in which a product sample with the above "Best By" had a positive result for Salmonella in a random test conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Companion Animal Parasite Council is hitting the road once again to educate veterinarians and pet owners on the importance of year-round parasite control in dogs and cats. This year's Parasite Education Road Show Tour will tour the Southeast, starting July 15 in Memphis, Tenn., and concluding July 31 in Atlanta, prior to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s conference.
