New Tennessee law allows people to save pets from hot cars

A new Tennessee law now allows people to break into hot cars if an animal is trapped inside — without fear of punishment. The law, which went into effect July 1, extends the states' good Samaritan law from including just kids, to pets too. It protects individuals from civil liability for any damages caused while trying to rescue a child or an animal in danger.

CDC to backyard coop owners: Chickens are not house pets

Four recent outbreaks of salmonella infections in multiple states have prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to remind poultry owners that the birds should not be snuggled, kissed or brought indoors. As of June 29, 181 people in 40 states had been infected with strains of salmonella, a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Thirty-three people were hospitalized.
