Bay County, Mich., removes breed specific language from laws

The Bay County, Michigan Board of Commissioners has passed an ordinance repealing language declaring pit bulls as vicious animals. The Commission adopted new language listing criteria by which any dog may be considered vicious. The new laws go into effect within seven days after being published in a local newspaper, which is soon forthcoming. More

For The Earth poised to acquire Miller's Cats

For The Earth Corp., the Phoenix-based manufacturer of PaPurr cat litter and What Odor? odor eliminating products, reported that it has signed a letter of intent to purchase Miller's Cats LLC. Financial terms of the deal have yet to be finalized. Miller's Cats, also based in Phoenix, manufactures cat furniture for mass merchandisers and pet specialty retailers. More

Philadelphia prohibits sale of unsterilized dogs, cats

Under a new law, Philadelphia retailers may only sell dogs or cats that have been spayed or neutered. The law, enacted in late May, states that "no animal retailer shall sell a dog or cat on a retail basis unless the animal is of an appropriate age for sterilization and the animal has been sterilized by a licensed veterinarian." More
