Some Eukanuba, Iams dry foods recalled

Selected lots of Eukanuba and Iams dry dog food and Iams dry cat food are being voluntarily recalled because of potential salmonella contamination. The manufacturer, Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co., reported that no salmonella-related illnesses had been linked to any of the lots. The recall, limited to the United States, represents a small amount, about one-tenth of 1 percent, of annual production of the foods.

Walmart to startups, more dip into pet health insurance
While roughly 45 million Americans struggle to access medical care, turns out many pets can access high-end medical treatments such as kidney transplants or acupuncture — thanks to the growing availability of pet insurance. Even Walmart has dipped its toe in pet health insurance, albeit in Canada.

California pet swap bill update

California's amended "Swap Meet" bill, AB 339, which would exempt gatherings like reptile and aquarium shows from a ban on live animal sales, was supposed to be heard by the California State Senate Appropriations Committee on Aug. 12, but AB 339 was not on the agenda.
