Consumer spending climbed more than forecast in July as Americans dipped into savings to buy cars and cool their homes, showing the biggest part of the economy is holding up. Purchases rose 0.8 percent, the biggest gain since February, after a 0.1 percent decline the prior month, Commerce Department figures showed in Washington. More

MedRx Veterinary Division acquired, renamed OtoVet-USA

Venture capital firm DermaZoo of Boca Raton, Fla., acquired the veterinary division of MedRx, which will be rebranded as a new company called OtoVet-USA, the company reported. OtoVet-USA will continue the MedRx veterinary division's specialization in video-otoscopy technology for animals. More

Nestlé to invest in Russian pet food factory

Nestlé has unveiled plans to invest more than $48 million in its Purina PetCare facility in Russia to double wet pet food production there. The money will be used to add production lines at its pet food factory in Vorsino, which is in Russia's Kaluga region. The move will allow the company to double production capacity for its wet pet food within the next three years, according to company officials. More

Novartis Animal Health, Inc., has announced an investment to significantly expand its Novartis Centre for Aqua Research & Development on Prince Edward Island, Canada.
