Governor signs Illinois pet store bill

Illinois House Bill 5772, which passed the legislature earlier this year, has now been signed by the Governor and has thereby become law. The bill creates new requirements for pet stores on the posting of information, as well as the provision of written information to customers. All pet stores selling dogs and cats should be familiar with the new law. More

California sterilization bill defeated

PIJAC recently warned members that a dormant anti-pet California bill had been pulled from the "inactive file" and sent to the Assembly floor for a final vote in the closing days of the legislative session. Sounding the alarm, PIJAC urged swift action to shore up legislative opposition to this unprecedented mandate to sterilize all pet dogs, as well as outdoor cats. Pet owners, hobbyists and members of the pet trade responded with a deluge of phone calls and email. The result was defeat of Senate Bill 250. More

Iams dry cat food recall expanded; was sold at Walmart

Procter & Gamble expanded the recall of Iams dry cat food over potential salmonella contamination and now says 476 bags were put on store shelves at Walmart stores in 14 states after initially claiming they were only sold in one Colorado city, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. More
