Animal abuse registry to affect pet sellers in Albany, N.Y.

The Albany County, New York Legislature is set to hold a hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to discuss adoption of an online animal abuse registry. The registry will list individuals residing in Albany County who have been convicted of animal abuse crimes and will prevent these individuals from adopting, purchasing, or obtaining animals from any animal shelter, pet seller, or other person or entity involved in the exchange of animals. Anyone found in non-compliance of checking the registry before transferring ownership of an animal will be subject to a $5,000 fine. More

FDA to host meetings on drug fee programs

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will hold a pair of public meetings on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, to receive feedback on its drug user fee programs for the animal health industry, the agency reported The Animal Drug User Fee Act and the Animal Generic Drug User Fee Act give the FDA authority to collect user fees from the animal health industry and use those fees to make the drug approval process faster and more predictable. SuperZoo draws record-breaking amount of exhibitors and attendees at 2011 show

SuperZoo, one of the largest national shows for pet retailers, experienced another record-breaking year at its 2011 show, recently hosted by the World Pet Association at The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Currently in its eighth year in Las Vegas, the three-day industry trade show drew 795 exhibiting companies, a 15 percent increase over the previous year; hosted 4,716 companies, a 26 percent increase over last year; and saw more than 12,197 registered attendees, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year.
