A Michigan congressman is trying to round up support for a bill that would allow pet owners to deduct pet-care expenses on their tax forms. Pets at Home, the retail chain, is being circled by a number of private equity firms while it considers a stock market listing, it was reported. The pet supplies business, which has 240 stores and employs more than 4,000 people, confirmed on Thursday night that it had appointed JP Morgan Cazenove to look at a potential offering of shares next year. It said that a stock market flotation was one of the options open to it. More

Sanofi-Aventis SA is likely to exercise its option to create a massive animal health joint venture with Merck & Co and expects booming growth for the company's vaccines business, the French drugmaker's chief executive said. Sanofi has already agreed to spend $4 billion for the other half of the Merial animal health business that U.S. partner Merck must divest to meet antitrust requirements for its pending acquisition of Schering-Plough Corp.
