SuperZoo attendance sets record
Pet Age
The 2014 SuperZoo show set a record in attendance this year. There were almost 23,000 pet industry professionals in attendance, surpassing expectations with an increase of 18 percent over last year. The keynote speaker, Daymond John, CEO of FUBU and co-star of ABC's "Shark Tank," jumpstarted the show with 2,000 retailers in attendance.

California increases consumer protections for pet insurance
Insurance Journal
Pet insurers must disclose important information regarding their policies, standardize definitions and provide consumers with a 30-day "free look" period, under a bill signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown. Brown signed Assembly bill 2056, which was supported by much of the pet insurance industry and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. According to the California Department of Insurance, the law is the first of its kind in regard to pet insurance in the nation.

Like many when we started, my wife and I knew animals, but we had to learn a lot about business. It turns out that our pet business has basically been uninsured for 10 years. Now don't take that to mean that we weren't paying insurance, because we have been paying lots of it — liability, workers' compensation, automobile and even umbrella insurance to fill in any gaps. What we haven't been paying for is any insurance that would actually cover a situation that we might encounter — a situation involving an animal.
