Dogs and cats in Las Vegas to be spayed or neutered

According to a story in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, The Las Vegas city council passed a new ordinance this past week requiring most cats and dogs to be spayed or neutered by four months of age. The ordinance takes effect April 1. It is in response to Southern Nevada's pet overpopulation problem and had support from local veterinarians and animal rescue groups. More

PetSmart is extending a voluntary recall on beef hoof products to include a total of 14 products. These items were manufactured by Pet Carousel, Inc. in Sanger, Calif., and include beef hoof chews as well as certain rope toys with hoof or bone components. The date range for purchasing affected products has been expanded to include products purchased from Sept. 1, 2009 to Nov. 6, 2009. More

Bluetick, Redbone gain AKC recognition

The bluetick and redbone coonhounds - along with the Boykin spaniel - have been officially recognized as breeds by the American Kennel Club. The acceptance of the three new breeds brings to 164 the number of breeds fully recognized as such by the AKC. More

Honda unveils a new dogmobile

The decades-old love affair between dogs and car rides is no strange concept to dog-owners, but a new vehicle unveiled recently by Honda promises to elevate this relationship to a whole new level of affection. Honda's Dog Friendly Element, which was released on Nov. 16 with the 2010 model, offers a car fully customized for the benefit of dogs, at the price of an additional $995. More

As part of a national effort, three pet food banks are holding the first ever Pet Pantry Partners' "Furr-ever Home" National Pet Food Drive, starting Nov. 21 and ending Jan. 1. The three organizations are Northland Pet Pantry in Missouri, Central Florida Pantry in Orlando and Pikes Peak Pet Pantry in Colorado. More
