Business isn't about you — it's about business
BNET Corner Office Blog    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Business isn't about you. It's also not about your career, your generation, your stress, your race, your gender, your religion, your holiday beliefs, or some psychopathic misfit's childish attempt at getting attention by disrupting the grown-up world. Business is about business. This may be counterintuitive, but if you want to be successful in the real world, you have to stop thinking about yourself and, instead, focus on the business. In fact, the closer you come to where "the rubber meets the road," the more successful you'll be. More

As a rule, entrepreneurs tend to be independent thinkers. That can often be a real strength in persevering against the myriad of challenges involved in building a business. But, when an entrepreneur makes the decision to become a franchisee, they need to curtail some of that independent spirit since they are now part of a bigger organization. What that means, then, is that you often need to get approval before you take action on any wild new plans, such as changing the color scheme of the franchise brand. More

PIJAC    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Following a recommendation by the Austin Animal Advisory Commission to ban the sale of dogs and cats by pet stores, the Austin City Council is poised to enact that ban into law. Included in the City Council's agenda for consideration during its Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 meeting is a proposal amending its ordinance regulating pet traders. In addition to amendments that would impose additional restrictions on the sale of dogs and cats, the Council will consider an outright ban on the sale of dogs and cats by pet stores. The city animal shelter, and any not-for-profit 501(c)(3) "animal welfare" organization, would be entirely exempt from the proposal and could continue selling dogs and cats without any restrictions under this ordinance. The sale of dogs, cats and other small animals at pet stores would be banned in Fort Collins under a proposal that might be headed to the April 2011 municipal ballot. In addition to cats and dogs, the sale ban would apply to birds, reptiles, amphibians and animals such as mice, hamsters and ferrets. The goal of the ban is to disrupt the business of puppy mills and kitten factories that breed large numbers of animals in inhumane conditions, said Laure Molitor, organizer of a petition drive aimed at amending a city ordinance governing the sale of animals and insects.
