Alan E. Weiner, Esq., CPA receives honors from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants is honoring Alan E. Weiner, an accountant and attorney, for his exceptional work, vision, and contributions to the New York accounting community. Weiner, partner emeritus at Holtz Rubenstein Reminick, is being honored with the NYSSCPA Distinguished Service Award.

This award recognizes CPAs who have set themselves apart as Society leaders and have given outstanding service to the Society and the profession through dedicated service, publications, public service and other activities.

Weiner served as NYSSCPA president, treasurer and as a member of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He chaired the Society's Tax Division Oversight, Partnerships and LLCs and Awards committees and its Tax Simplification task force. He is currently a member of the NYSSCPA Partnerships and LLCs Committee and serves as a judge on the Excellence in Financial Journalism Committee. He has served as a member of its Closely Held and S Corporations, Committee Operations, Finance, Political Action, Relations with the Legal Community, History and Annual Leadership Conference committees. He also served as chair of the Estate Planning and Federal Tax Committees for the NYSSCPA Nassau Chapter. He founded the Long Island Accountants Blood Bank Drive.

The NYSSCPA will recognize Weiner on May 19 at the Society's 114th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

A guide to paying your 2011 estimated taxes

Some people are required to pay estimated taxes. Most self employed individuals will be required to make estimated tax payments unless several conditions for exception are met; sole proprietors, partnerships and S corporations are generally required to pay estimated tax payments if they are expected to owe a minimum of $1,000 in taxes. Corporations generally must pay estimated taxes if expected to owe $500 or more when you file. Individuals owing taxes from a previous year may be required to pay estimated taxes for the current tax year. IRS Form 1040-ES will help you determine whether or not you are required to pay estimated taxes. More
