Named for General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolution, the hotel opened in 1924 as the largest and grandest hotel in the Carolinas. Recent refurbishments have added to the comforts of today and enhanced the hotel's historic ambiance with sleek room decor reminiscent of the 1920s grandeur. The Francis Marion Hotel, with its central downtown location, is an easy walk to the antebellum homes, magnificent gardens, antique shops and boutiques and world-class restaurants.
The AAA-CPA has reserved a block of hotel rooms at the Francis Marion Hotel at a special discounted rate of $199 for conference participants for a single or double occupancy room. The hotel will only guarantee these room rates until Oct. 16. Reservations can be made by calling 1-877-756-2121 or 843-722-0600. Ask for the AAA-CPA fall meeting group rate.

Thomson Reuters has released their special report, "Projected 2016 Inflation-Adjusted Tax Brackets and Other Key Figures," which demonstrates that, despite modest inflation in the past year, tax brackets will be adjusted upward in 2016, easing the tax burden slightly for many taxpayers. The adjustments will prevent the loss of tax benefits due solely to inflation.
U.S. companies that benefited from more than $65 billion in taxpayer-backed loan guarantees have kept nearly $458 billion in profits offshore — avoiding paying billions in taxes to the government that helps them sell goods overseas, a Watchdog.org investigation found. Using an Export-Import Bank database, corporate records and a database from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, Watchdog.org identified 50 companies that exported billions using bank guarantees yet kept nearly half a trillion dollars offshore and away from the Internal Revenue Service.

The release of federal poverty data is a reminder of the need to prioritize provisions that will help America's working families struggling to get into or remain a member of the middle class.
