Congress set to end 2011 with face-off over payroll tax
Los Angeles Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
After spending the year lurching from one moment of brinkmanship to the next and watching their popularity plummet, members of Congress are poised to close out 2011 with one last showdown — over whether to extend a payroll tax break for 160 million U.S. workers. Alone among the six contenders on stage, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney ventured a prediction about job creation, saying his plan would translate into 11.5 million jobs in four years. More

The Ithaca Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
New Yorkers who earn more than $300,000 a year will pay less in income taxes next year, based on the changes in income-tax policy approved by the Legislature in a special session this week. But if Gov. Andrew Cuomo had brokered this deal a month from now, the opposite would be true. More
