As an ADAA Member Foundation Director, I am privileged to attend the American Dental Assistants Association Foundation meetings and see firsthand how our Foundation works for dental assistants. The ADAA Foundation was founded in 1992 with this mission statement: "The foundation is committed to enhancing the profession of dental assisting, promoting education and research relevant to the industry, and complementing the efforts of the American Dental Assistants Association."

Impressions of my 1st National ADAA Meeting

In November, I attended my first National American Dental Assistants Association meeting in New Orleans. It happens to be my hometown before I relocated to the state of Tennessee. Although I have been the field of dentistry for over twenty years as an office manager, I am a recent graduate as a dental assistant. One day at our office, our dental assistant did not show up and the doctor asks me to come in the back to assist him with a surgical extraction.

Dental patient won't complete medical forms

Improvements needed in preventive dental care in the USA

Buck teeth: Correct them once in early adolescence

Children with prominent front teeth, colloquially known as buck teeth, often require orthodontic work to straighten their teeth and improve both their bite and appearance. This can be done in one stage during early adolescence (age 10 to 16) or two stages with the first stage between age 7 and 11 and the second in early adolescence. A new Cochrane review finds few benefits to the two-stage correction.

Hawaii 3-year-old dies after dental procedures

A 3-year-old girl who suffered massive brain damage after undergoing dental procedures on multiple teeth last month has died, an attorney for her family said. The child's family has filed a malpractice suit against the Kailua, Hawaii, dentist who performed the procedures, and that suit will be amended to include wrongful death, Rick Fried, attorney for the family of Finley Boyle, said in confirming her death.
