22 states improve dental care for children
The Pew Center on the States Share
In 2011's nationwide report card issued by the Pew Children's Dental Campaign, 27 states earned grades of A or B, while 23 states and the District of Columbia received a C or lower grade. However, the 2011 grades for 22 states were higher than their 2010 grades, revealing that even in a time of fiscal distress, dental health policies can be improved.
More than 16 million U.S. children go without even basic dental care each year. Pew's report card, The State of Children's Dental Health: Making Coverage Matter, assesses states' ability to serve insured and other children. The 2011 Pew report card, produced with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the DentaQuest Foundation, reveals simultaneous signs of hope and concern.

Joplin, Mo., tornado 'devastating for
American Dental Association Share
By Missouri Dental Association estimates, "essentially half of this city's (Joplin) dental community has been affected" by the deadliest U.S. tornado in 60 years. "This is very devastating for the dental community and the entire surrounding area and city of Joplin," said MDA Executive Director Vicki Wilbers. "We know of nine dentists for certain who received heavy damage or complete destruction of their offices."
In an effort to support the dentists of Joplin and their community, a special fund has been created through the MDA Foundation to raise money and help in future relief and rebuilding efforts. The Foundation will serve as a collection center, and 100 percent of funds collected will go to the relief efforts. For donation and other disaster response information go to http://www.modental.org/tornado. More
