I was leaving a job as a professional artist and looking for a temporary job until I decided my next path when I applied for a secretary position at the office where I currently work, said Rachel Benko. Lucky for me, the position was filled and they offered to train me as an assistant. It was one of the best decisions I ever made — seven years later I'm still here. More

In 1969, only 34 women graduated from schools of dental medicine in the United States. They made up a mere 0.9 percent of all dental school graduates. By 1975 the number of women graduating from dental school had more than quadrupled. But women still made up only 3 percent of all dental school graduates. More

The American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) has published a series of papers highlighting proposed curriculum guidelines for the training of dental therapists. AAPHD believes that adding dental therapists as members of the dental team may help meet growing U.S. oral health needs, particularly among underserved populations. More

Loyal Assistant Award - To a member who has demonstrated loyalty as well as longevity in service to their employer; need not be present to win.

ADAA/Sunstar Americas Pride Awards - Presented to a member who believes in loyalty to self as well as the profession of dental assisting, Categories include: Clinical Assistant, Business/Administrative Assistant, Educator and Federal Services; $250 plus a donation of $250 to the ADAA Foundation in the name of the recipient.
