Viral Infection May Explain Racial Differences in Oral Cancer Death Rates

African-American patients with head and neck cancers die earlier than whites, and researchers say they have made a breakthrough in understanding the underlying reasons for the racial gap. After scientists at the University of Maryland noticed that whites treated at their hospital for squamous cell head and neck cancers lived more than twice as long as black patients who received the same care at their hospital, they took a closer look. Red Flags Postponed Until Nov. 1
from the American Dental Association
The Federal Trade Commission announced another Red Flags enforcement delay to Nov. 1 "to assist small businesses" in understanding the regulation. In an announcement posted on the FTC Web site, the commission said it will create a special Web link with materials offering "guidance and direction" for the "small and low-risk entities," including dentists and physicians, who have questioned the FTC's application of the Red Flags identity theft rules to their practices. More

Study: Redheads' Extra Pain May Cause Fear of Dentists

New research published in the Journal of American Dental Association found that painful experiences at the dentist might cause more anxiety for men and women with red hair, who were twice as likely to avoid dental care than people with dark hair.
