Thank you Kevin Henry
ADAA
ADAA and dental assistants across the county say a big "THANK YOU" to Kevin Henry for his dedication and support of the profession of dental assisting. Henry has been the editor of several dental magazines and newsletters, including "Dental Assisting Digest" and has always been dental assisting's biggest cheerleader. He is stepping down as editor of "Dental Assisting Digest" and we want to take this opportunity to let him know how much we appreciate his ability to bring dental assisting to a national stage. Good luck Kevin on your new adventure!

Paving the pathway to caries control with cellular and salivary diagnostics
Inside Dental Assisting
To paraphrase a statement made by the author's friend and colleague, Dr. David Wong, associate dean at University of California, Los Angeles, one of the most laudable goals for any human being is to prevent disease for a large number of people. As dental teams move toward the medical model of preventive healthcare management by assessing, diagnosing, counseling, and healing, this philosophy should be guiding our course of action.

How do I approach abrasive office manager who causes dental office friction?
Dentistry IQ
Question: I have a very touchy question. Our office manager has been in our practice for 30 years and she has a very overpowering personality. She can be quite abrasive when speaking with team members and acts very disrespectful to us at times. She comes and goes as she pleases and has even gotten to the point of having us do a lot of her work. I know she is valuable to the practice, but some of team members are leaving because of her actions. I really like my job and the dentist, and I would like to know the best way to handle this. Our entire team feels the same way as I do.

Dental spending
Dental Economics
The U.S. is emerging – albeit slowly – from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. At the same time, the health care system is on the verge of unprecedented reform. The Affordable Care Act, with its triple aim of improving the health of the population, enhancing the patient experience, and reducing cost will usher in a sea change in how health care is financed and delivered. The U.S. far outspends any other country when it comes to healthcare, with no real demonstrated gains in health outcomes.

Sudy: Poor oral hygiene tied to cancer-linked virus
HealthDay
People whose teeth and gums are in poor condition may be more susceptible to an oral virus that can cause certain mouth and throat cancers, a new study suggests. Researchers found that of more than 3,400 U.S. adults, those who rated their oral health as "poor" to "fair" were more likely to have an oral infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), which, in certain cases, can eventually lead to cancer.
