Controversial layoff letter of dental assistant with cancer: What NOT to do
Dentistry IQ
By now you’ve all probably read the article about the dental assistant in Pennsylvania who was abruptly laid off because she has cancer. The dentist has been made to look like a villain, and the letter has been splashed across several websites. … Like any other story, there are two sides. While this letter looks heartless on the surface, according to several online articles the dentist claims that by writing the letter he is enabling the assistant to collect unemployment benefits.

3 ways to improve the cash flow in your dental practice
Dental Practice Management
Editor's note: Although this article was published earlier this year, we find it's still relevant information.
Dayna Johnson, who has helped dental offices transition down the path to paperless using her years of experience as a dental office manager and Certified Dentrix Trainer writes: I remember when my family relocated to a new city and I applied for a job at a dental practice closer to home. This practice had been open for a little more than a year and seemed to be thriving. However, as the months went by, I realized that this practice had no systems in place … and it was especially noticeable in the collections. After about three months, the doctor told me that that month was the first month since the practice opened that he was able to draw a paycheck.

How to tackle glut of hygienists with no job prospects?
Dentistry IQ
QUESTION: I would like to address the oversaturation of the RDH field, which has been since 2007 in the New England area at least. I find the government and Bureau of Labor and Statistics are just given copy, and they post it. They really don't care or know the reality of finding work for RDHs. Also, there are too many RDH schools opening and too many new graduates. Many older RDHs are not retiring, and there is A LOT of backstabbing for a position. This makes it even harder to obtain a position with set hours and any increases in pay, however small.
