On the road to better oral health
Inside Dental Assisting
Imagine going to your dental practice every day not always knowing what is in store for you and your colleagues. Perhaps your work is performed in a 12-foot-by-12-foot-square room — reception area, sterilization and treatment area all included. Maybe your practice is in a refurbished camper trailer or you drive a small truck to work and arrive an hour early to unload and set up before patients arrive. One day you are with experienced doctors familiar with their surroundings, and the next you are side by side with third- and fourth-year dental students new to the facility. This is the career path that thousands of dental assistants choose — and love — every day.

However, we have a huge issue that is ruining our office — the doctor's son. He is our business manager and I am the office manager. I've been here almost 17 years, and he's been here about seven years. He makes twice what I make and does about one eighth of the work.

Re-evaluating your work style
By Jill Nesbitt
A dental practice I know is changing offices — the accounting person, the insurance manager and the daily deposit person are all moving to new offices in their building. As they work through the physical changes — and they get the IT company to relocate all the computers, printers, network connections — the real opportunity for each of them is to reconsider their work style.

How to find the right team members for your dental practice
Dental Practice Management
Before you place your next hiring ad or ask friends to be on the lookout for someone, you must know "who" you are looking for. If this isn't clear on the front end, you can easily make a bad hire simply because you weren't focused on the traits you really desire for the position. Or maybe you have found yourself in a "crisis" hiring situation and you feel you don’t have time to define what you really want or need; you just want the RIGHT person NOW.
