The antidepressant Effexor (venlafaxine) appears to increase a pregnant woman's risk of excess bleeding following labor, researchers say. Effexor, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), was linked with a more than 70 percent increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage in a study of more than 300,000 Canadian pregnancies. The study was published in the March issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Fussy eating — regularly refusing to eat certain foods — is common among children and is a frequent cause of concern among parents. And it has been linked with constipation, weight problems and behavioral issues in children, the researchers said.

Being pregnant may decrease symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in some women, new research suggests. The new study, published in the journal Depression and Anxiety, included 319 pregnant women with the stress disorder. Those with high levels of PTSD in early pregnancy saw symptoms decrease as they got closer to giving birth, the findings showed.

In women, blood flow to the heart during exercise testing may be influenced by anxiety, while the same does not appear to be true for men, according to results reported in the annual women's themed issue of Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. Overall, reduced blood flow was more common in men than in women, and anxiety disorders weren't generally linked to higher or lower risk of ischemia.
